Cambridge Science Centre is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team of Science Communicators. As a Science Communicator, you will be involved in all aspects of our delivery of hands-on science technology, engineering and maths to young people with schools and communities – from single day events to multi-month pop-up science centres around the region. Cambridge Science Centre Cambridge Science Centre (CSC) envisions a future where every child, and, by extension, everyone, enjoys, explores, and shapes the world through science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM). We use hands-on, fun, and accurate engagements to impact people’s emotional and skill-based relationship with STEM and the broader world, and to encourage consideration of actions that individuals can take, support, and influence. We strive to be a part of the communities that we are serving by listening to their wants and needs and delivering STEM engagement in a manner that makes it accessible and effective. We use our core suite of show, workshop, drop-in activity, and exhibit formats to craft meaningful engagements for the diverse communities across the East of England.
CSC is currently focusing on an outreach model – we go to schools and communities to deliver in their spaces. This takes various formats from one-day events or school visits to multi-month pop-up science centres in community venues that can host schools, community groups and free-exploration days. CSC is also in the process of establishing a new permanent space in Cambridge that will allow us to offer deeper engagement opportunities to complement and enhance our ongoing outreach work. Across our formats, we work with a variety of ages from 0 to 16 years old and engage the adults in these young people’s lives. We also work with the incredible array of STEM-related organisations in Cambridge and across the region to enhance our content via their input, guest appearances at our events and volunteering opportunities. Science Communicator Role A Science Communicator brings STEM alive through the engaging and passionate delivery of prepared content (e.g., shows, workshops and exhibits) to young people and their families/carers and teachers in school and community settings and to provide a relevant experience to which people can relate by responding to audience attitudes and questions. Science Communicators are responsible for setting up and running delivery in a wide-variety of locations
Duties: - Explain the STEM behind the exhibits and present shows, workshops and drop-in activities in a lively, fun and engaging manner to their intended audiences - Frequent travel (primarily driving with company vehicle) to a variety of locations across the East of England, including schools and community venues, which will include occasional overnight stays - Safe set-up and -down of equipment and running of an event in line with standard procedures and guidelines - The work rota includes one in three weekends and occasional evenings (time worked will be returned as time in-lieu) - Support a positive team and organisation environment by being considerate and respectful to others - Provide a high-quality visitor experience to all audiences - Gather and provide feedback as required by our Evaluation programme - Undertake administrative work related to the role, including but not limited to: -- Completion of necessary event organisation planning documents and systems -- General reporting and action to ensure the equipment is maintained -- General reporting and action to support the maintenance of quality and accuracy of content -- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe work areas -- Partake in training, and identify training needs and communicate to the Head of Programmes and Delivery for review - As required, undertake a secondary role (e.g., project or business-as-normal lead, content development, etc.) and other tasks and duties as may from time to time be requested

The Engineering Education Scheme Wales Ltd is currently seeking a Delivery Officer, who will work under the supervision of the Activity Manager and liaise with the Chief Executive Officer to deliver exciting and motivating STEM activities in schools and to develop new project ideas, initially on a fixed term contract from November 2023 to 31st December 2024. There is the possibility of an extension to March 2025, depending on available funding.
As a Delivery Officer, you will be responsible for delivering various STEM activities in schools. You will deliver sessions to groups of pupils within their schools, as well as assisting the Activity Manager and other deliverers with the development of new STEM activities to be delivered across Wales.

The Foundation for Science and Technology is looking to appoint a part time Communications Officer (around 24 hours per week). The postholder will be responsible for a diverse range of communication activities. This includes creating and editing content for the FST Journal, managing the Foundation’s website and social media platforms, producing analytics of communications activities, and in addition will commission and edit blogs and podcasts. As the Foundation is a small organisation, the communications officer will be involved in other activities associated with the Foundation, including supporting the delivery of the Foundation Future Leaders programme.
The ideal candidate will have experience in writing and editing content of different types and lengths, both for online and physical publication. They will be ICT literate, familiar managing social media platforms and creating compelling and engaging content, and have experience in managing a website. The Foundation uses a number of software packages (e.g. Audacity, Kentico, Soundcloud) and full training can be given.
The role is designed as 24 hours per week, and can be completed flexibly to fit in with other commitments. The Foundation for Science and Technology is based in London and the post holder can work from a mixture of home and office. A work laptop will be provided, as will some support to establish a home office if desired. The Foundation organises approximately 10 events per year held in the early evening, and the Communications Officer will usually be required to be in London on these dates to support these events. Occasional travel within the UK (up to 4 times per year) may be required.

Senior Research Officer
Context & Purpose
The core purpose of this role is to maintain and manage the charity’s research grants programme, including co-ordinating processes to support the funding of new research and ensuring that research findings are appropriately disseminated. The post holder will also be responsible for supporting the organisation and delivery of MRF’s programme of conferences, symposia and virtual events and will be required to produce and maintain accurate information on meningitis and septicaemia for the public.
The role will form part of the Research Evidence and Policy (REP) Team along with the Head of Research, Head of Health Insights and Policy and the Health Insights, Policy and Disease Information Manager. There will be frequent cross team working with the Communications and Engagement Team.
The REP team is responsible for all aspects of our AMRC accredited research funding portfolio; organising a series of research-medical events; provision of guidelines and tools for health professionals; sharing latest knowledge about the diseases to a wide range of stakeholders including professionals and the public; ensuring MRF’s policies on the best ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the diseases are evidence-based; and contributing to programmes of work associated with the WHO Global Roadmap to Defeat Meningitis by 2030.

Responsibilities
Research administration
• Enable the selection of new research projects by
• processing grant applications
• identifying peer reviewers
• co-ordinating the peer review process
• liaising with the Scientific Advisory Panel and external referees, organising and attending meetings (in-person and virtual), preparing meeting papers, writing minutes, communicating Panel recommendations to applicants and referees, and preparing grant award letters
• Monitor progress of research projects: request annual reports and circulate to designated Panel members, act on outcomes of annual review of progress in consultation with Head of Research
• Ensure that grant information, forms and procedures are continually reviewed and updated to comply with best practice, suggest improvements and implement any necessary changes
• Liaise with the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) and ensure compliance with their membership regulations (including the annual data collection and peer review audit every five years) and statement of best practice.
• Develop and maintain databases and spreadsheets containing the charity’s research management information, grant review process and lists of contacts.
• Maintain the Research Impact Matrix to ensure that the outputs of MRF funded research are captured and shared
• Support the Head of Research to review and develop a new Research Strategy aligned to MRF’s Organisational strategy.
Research dissemination
• Work with the charity’s Communications team and Principal Investigators on research news releases and other communication about Foundation-funded and relevant external research, and initiatives. Write about research and related health information for the charity’s website and for electronic communications as appropriate.
• Keep briefing sheets and the charity’s website up-to-date with information on charity research projects.
• Keep abreast of relevant research developments and publications, and respond to enquiries from researchers, members and supporters and the general public.
• Develop and input in to reports for funders (including trusts, the pharmaceutical industry and high value independent donors), to demonstrate the value of their investment in MRF’s work.
Medical-research event organisation and delivery
• Lead on the organisation of MRF’s biennial international medical-scientific conference (the next of which is taking place in November 2023); including supporting the Head of Research in programme development, identifying and negotiating with a range of suppliers, uploading material to the conference website and app, acting as a key contact for speakers and chairs, taking responsibility for academic posters, and promoting the conference to scientific and medical contacts. In years where funding is secured, oversee the bursary application process.
• Co-ordinate MRF’s biennial virtual webinar series
• Organise key research project meetings and take meeting minutes
• Represent MRF at relevant external meetings and conferences
Patient and Public Involvement (PPI)
• Engage members and the public with MRF’s research activity: through written and verbal formats. Work with other departments to make the most of consequent opportunities to engage members in communication or fundraising for research.

Evidence and Information
• Under the supervision of the Health Insights, Policy and Disease Information manager, develop and maintain factsheets, which provide the public with accurate information on meningitis and septicaemia, and their prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
• Provide advice and support for wider teams to ensure that content contains accurate disease/medical information and evidence (such as the latest statistics, up to date references)

Experience
All applicants must have recent and relevant experience of:
• Working in a research environment or for a medical research charity, with an understanding of research management (minimum one year’s experience).

Location: Must be UK based: can be hybrid (Bristol office) or remote. Occasional work elsewhere if required to travel for work purposes which could include international travel.
Annual salary £29,000-£33,000 (depending on experience) including 2% employee pension contribution + 6% employer pension contribution. Paid in arrears on or around 25th of each month.
Contract Type - Permanent
Hours of Work - 36.25 hours between 8.00 am to 6.00 pm Monday to Friday. Occasional unsociable hours.

Open Source Science Programme Developer
Location: Hybrid – your time will be split between our office/venue on Bristol Harbourside, and your home or wherever you like to work. We’re happy to support flexible working – both through hybrid working and your working pattern. You just need to be able to attend key meetings, have some cross-over with the rest of the Programming, Open Source Science and delivery teams and deliver the responsibilities of the role. Salary: £26,500 per annum
Contract: Permanent
Working hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week with some weekend and evening working.

About the role You’ll be responsible for creating content for our Open Source Science (OSS) programme. OSS is our public engagement with research programme which includes activities, workshops and participatory experiences, developed in collaboration with research partners, audiences and community partners. You will have experience of public engagement with science or research, and be highly organised and visitor focused. You are confident maintaining a large number and diverse range of professional relationships and bringing together ideas and research partners from across disciplines. You will work as part of the Open Source Science team, which includes Head of OSS, OSS Project Manager and Research Collective Community and Programme Developer. This team is focused on delivery of OSS activity and also works as part of a wider cross departmental team.
