    Location: home based or office at successful candidate’s preference

    Full Time (job shares and flexible working possible)

    Permanent

    Closing date: Tuesday 2 August 2022

    We’re looking for a Coordinator to support the work of the Wales Team at the Institute of Physics.

    As the professional body and learned society for physics in the UK and Ireland our mission is to transform the physics landscape for the UK and Ireland, and ensure a thriving physics ecosystem that contributes to innovation, discovery, research, growth and debate in the UK, Ireland and beyond.

    You’ll need to be organised and self-motivated, with an interest in how we make the world a fairer place. You don’t need to be a physicist, but a commitment to promoting equity in STEM is a must.

    We’d love to hear from Welsh speakers and learners, and anyone who would like to develop their skills and build a career in one of the areas we work in - be that marketing, public affairs, outreach and community engagement, membership support, education or professional services.

    We seek to be an inclusive employer, and will work with you to make the job work for the right person. That might be flexible working, job-share, home-working or office working. There’s no fixed place where you must be based, although an understanding of Wales and working in a bilingual environment is obviously important.

    What is it like working at the IOP?

Looking after our colleagues and supporting them in life and work is our priority, ensuring they can live their best lives, with competitive salaries and generous benefits.

    What will I be doing?

    You will be ensuring the smooth running of IOP activities in Wales, by;

    ·        Providing administrative and event-management support to the team,

    ·        Liaising with members, physics teachers and other stakeholders to keep them informed of our work, and

    ·        Planning and managing social media and other routine marketing activity.

    Projects you work on may include:

    Working across our strategic priorities, you might work on;

    ·        Our LimitLess / Torrwch y Ffiniau campaign that seeks to tackle inequality in physics

    ·        Event attendances, such as Pride Cymru and the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol, and

    ·        Writing and issuing regular newsletters for our members.

    You will work alongside?

    ·        Our staff team in Wales,

    ·        Our colleagues across the IOP in the UK and Ireland, and

    ·        Members, teachers and other stakeholders.

    Ideally, we at the IOP hope you’ll apply if your skills include:

    Essential

    ·        Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan and manage your own work and provide administrative support to others,

    ·        The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, and

    ·        Good interpersonal skills, to be able to work with a wide cohort of people.

    Nice to have

    ·        The ability to work through the medium of Welsh (although we are happy to provide training to those who wish to learn), and

    ·        Experience of working on your own initiative.

    How do we work?

    The Institute of Physics is an equal opportunities employer and our people are at the heart of our approach to delivery. Following the impact of COVID-19, we have developed a new, innovative and exciting trust-based model of flexible working called How We Work. This empowers our staff to choose both individually and as a team how, when and where they work to deliver the goals of the organisation, acknowledging that there will be occasions where in-person meetings, collaborations and events will help generate greater impact. The How We Work initiative is based on the principles of collaboration, trust, flexibility and agility. You will be allocated a ‘base’ office which can also be a chosen place of work.

    Why should I want to work for the IOP?

    The Institute of Physics (IOP) is the professional body and learned society for physics in the UK and Ireland - we seek to raise public awareness and understanding of physics and support the development of a diverse and inclusive physics community. As a charity, we’re here to ensure that physics delivers on its exceptional potential to benefit society.

    We have an ambitious new corporate strategy and you’ll play a part in helping us to deliver it.  There’s never been a more exciting time to join the IOP.
