Urenco Young Scientist Centre Manager, Royal Institution

The Ri has a clear vision that ‘Science is for Everyone’ and it is our belief that everyone should have equitable access to science. Through our packed event programme available in person or online, our UK schools’ outreach and social impact initiatives, and our global digital reach including 1.6m YouTube subscribers, we achieve our mission by connecting people with scientists to explore science together. 

The Urenco Young Scientist Centre (UYSC) is an imaginative laboratory space at the Ri, where young people from Years 3-13 can experience and explore science outside of the classroom. Workshops range from investigating acids and alkalis and making bath bombs with primary school children, to investigating your own DNA with secondary school students.

We currently have two fantastic opportunities to join the UYSC, one as our Summer 2026 PhD intern and the other as UYSC Manager.

Job Title: UYSC Manager

Accountable to: Head of Public and Family Programmes

Location: 21 Albemarle Street, London

Contract type: Permanent and full time (35 hours per week). Primarily onsite with he option to work remotely occasionally.

Salary: c£37,000 per annum

Closing Date for both roles: 9am on Monday 18 May 2026.

Interview Date: We are hoping to interview w/c 25 May 2026. 

As the successful applicant you will help develop and deliver the UYSC programme for primary and secondary school children, collaborating with colleagues to research and create content, and present and event manage live workshops, ensuring our visitors have an engaging and inspiring educational experience.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the Ri’s wider science communication programmes, including the family, schools and public programmes as well as the world famous CHRISTMAS LECTURES
