29 Apr 2026 10:00 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

The Ri has a clear vision that ‘Science is for Everyone’ and it is our belief that everyone should have equitable access to science. Through our packed event programme available in person or online, our UK schools’ outreach and social impact initiatives, and our global digital reach including 1.6m YouTube subscribers, we achieve our mission by connecting people with scientists to explore science together.

The Urenco Young Scientist Centre (UYSC) is an imaginative laboratory space at the Ri, where young people from Years 3-13 can experience and explore science outside of the classroom. Workshops range from investigating acids and alkalis and making bath bombs with primary school children, to investigating your own DNA with secondary school students.

We currently have two fantastic opportunities to join the UYSC, one as our Summer 2026 PhD intern and the other as UYSC Manager.

Job Title: UYSC PhD Intern

Accountable to: UYSC Manager

Location: 21 Albemarle Street, London. Fully Onsite

Contract type: 3 month internship: July – Sept 2026 (35 hours per week)

Salary: Payment by stipend from university, Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) or Research Council.

Please check funding with your university/DTP before applying.

This is a hands on, early careers opportunity to learn about, and gain experience of science communication and engagement. You will be involved in the delivery and presentation of workshops in the UYSC where students become a scientist for the day, testing their own ideas by designing creative science experiments.

Your main role will be to assist with the delivery of these workshops, interacting with the young people who attend. This internship will give you the opportunity to develop your skills as a lab technician, receive regular feedback and training in science communication, design content for use at live events and on social media and build your confidence in science presenting in a supportive, educational environment.
