Public Engagement Officer

University of Leeds

Full time, ongoing contract, salary 28,762 to £34,308 p.a.

Are you a team player? Do you believe that research can make a difference to people’s lives? Do you have experience of large event management? Do you want to be involved in supporting and building public engagement with research institution-wide?

The University of Leeds is one of the top 135 universities in the world.  We have a truly global community, with more than 39,000 students from 170 different countries and over 9,000 staff of 100 different nationalities. Established in 1904, we have a strong tradition of academic excellence, reflected in first-class student education, along with world-leading research that has a real impact around the globe.

You will be part of the Public Engagement with Research Team at the University of Leeds, who support and facilitate engagement with our research across the whole breadth of disciplines, to family and adult audiences. Our task is to build awareness of who researchers are, what they do and why it matters through a variety of platforms, as well as mobilising, supporting and coaching researchers to engage with publics.

You will play a key role in delivering elements of our Be Curious brand family as part of our mission to make research relevant in people’s lives. This broad, varied and exciting role requires a passion for people, excellent communication skills to make research resonate and inspire engagement, and offers an opportunity for sharing your skills to support our researchers to translate their research into relevant content.

You must have experience of event management and be able to work effectively and proactively with colleagues within the University and other local partners. You will be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. You will need to quickly create and maintain strong working relationships with staff at all levels throughout the organisation and external to the University, be effective across a range of formal and informal teams and be a team player.

This post provides an exciting opportunity to be involved in further building public engagement at the University of Leeds and being part of an enthusiastic and dedicated team.

If you are looking for a role that offers the opportunity to be leading the organisation of public facing events for the whole institution, where your enthusiasm motivates colleagues to embrace engaged research practice, where your team spirit and collaboration ethos allows you to gain new experiences and implement new ideas, where your advice is respected and sought from colleagues across the University, and where engagement with external partners is part of the job, apply today.
