The Marketing and Communications team delivers incredible, modern, multi-channel marcomms strategies that engage audiences through captivating stories, and develops cohesive and resilient brand identity, to position CPI as the go-to enabler of innovation that creates a healthier and more sustainable world.
As the organisation grows, we’re looking for an expert Senior Press Officer to lead and deliver print, broadcast and podcast coverage that positions CPI as a trusted, disruptive deep tech innovation enabler. You will have the opportunity to set best practices for media relations, adopt innovative media tactics, and progress and shape your career within the Marketing and Communications team.
As a relaxed, flexible, creative and inclusive team, we’re looking for someone who is keen to collaborate with folks of all levels across the MarComms team and wider business to deliver stellar media outputs that support CPI’s business objectives.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
Managing, maintaining and building strong relationships with national, trade and regional media organisations across the North of England, Scotland and the wider UK.
Proactively pitching stories directly to journalists and podcast producers to secure op-eds and thought leadership opportunities.
Leading meetings with senior leaders across the business to prepare reactive statements and media briefings.
Writing and editing creative science content for editorials, press releases, media pitches, and podcast pitches.
Understanding and interpreting data to lead media planning, monitoring, distribution, and reporting.

The person we are seeking
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a similar role within the UK science and innovation landscape, strong connections with science and business media, and a proven ability to write succinct scientific press releases and pitches.
It's essential candidates are educated to a minimum of degree level in a Media, Marketing, or Scientific discipline — or hold equivalent education/experience.
You will be an excellent storyteller with the ability to cut through complexity to deliver engaging written content. A deep interest in science, technology and innovation, and the positive societal and environmental impact they can deliver, is a must.
It is desirable that candidates have experience in one or more of the following:
Masters in Science Communication.
CIM/CIPR courses or qualifications.
Experience developing and delivering PR campaigns.
Experience using Meltwater or Vuelio.
Experience working with senior leadership teams.
Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion in STEM.
Experience of working with freelance copywriters.
Organising or delivering media training.
