The Department of Applied Sciences is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Science Communication. This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant community of science communication researchers and practitioners who are currently working at the cutting edge of science communication research and practice. The post-holder will design and deliver effective teaching and learning opportunities for the MSc in Science Communication, as well as other postgraduate, undergraduate and foundation level science communication provision across the department. The post-holder will also be expected to contribute to the continuing professional development (CPD) offering and the research portfolio of the internationally renowned Science Communication Unit, home to a group of over twenty science communication academics, researchers, writers, and PhD students.
The post holder will participate in the design, development and assessment of modules and will be passionate about teaching and providing support to students. Working within a committed and enthusiastic team, the post-holder will contribute to the highly regarded and innovative MSc in Science Communication, undergraduate teaching, and the Science Communication Unit’s continuing professional development (CPD) offering. Preference will be given to applicants who can evidence expertise in either quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies appropriate to science communication, combined with in-depth knowledge of academic theory OR practice in science communication.
Candidates will be expected to have a PhD in science communication or a subject relevant to the post, or to have a relevant master’s qualification with significant professional practice. We are looking for candidates who have experience of teaching, research and/or practice in science communication, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students, inspiring them to learn. An interest in contributing to and leading the preparation of proposals and applications to secure funding from internal and external sources is also desirable.

The Engineering Education Scheme Wales Ltd is currently seeking 2 Project Officers , who will work under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer to work with the EESW management team, and the team of newly appointed Project Officers to develop, implement and successfully deliver the Connecting Teachers with Industry pilot project for the County Borough areas of Bridgend and Rhondda Cynon Taf funded by the UK Community Renewal Fund.
The Connecting Teachers with Industry Project will create and deliver a series of events aimed at teaching professionals of both primary and secondary schools. Events will expose teachers to the excitement and wonders of manufacturing and engineering and make them aware of the range of innovative and rewarding careers available in the Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, Creative and Digital and Energy and Environment sectors in the region.
This is a fixed term contract until 30th June 2022 working on the above project.

Membership Services Manager - BIG

This is a freelance role for an initial three-year period.
We anticipate the time commitment will be approximately 8 hours a week worked flexibly and according to the needs of our organisation.
The commitment also includes 3-4 BIG Executive Committee meetings a year and attendance at the annual BIG Event each July. You will report to the BIG Executive Committee.
Duties and responsibilitiesMembership Services· Register new members and post out membership cards· Manage member data· Help run the AGM· Liaise with organisations providing membership discounts/free entry· Respond to email, social media and telephone enquiries
Website· Keep website pages up-to-date with support of BIG Event Co-ordinator and Executive Committee· Ensure webpages contain only appropriate content and only appropriate people are given website editing rights· Liaise with Wild Apricot and Web Developer (Martin Glancy)· Collect and upload AGM papers and minutes of meetings to the website· Keep policies up-to-date· Monitor Google analytics for the website· Post regular additions and update the jobs webpage
Communication· Collate content and edit quarterly e-newsletters a year for BIG’s membership· Create content, monitor and respond to BIG’s Social media accounts – Twitter, Linked In and Facebook· Monitor and manage the BIG Members email list, BIG-Chat mailing list and Mailchimp database of lapsed members, in accordance with Data Protection legislation· Attend Executive Committee meetings when possible (Skype attendance is acceptable)· Create and regularly update handover documents for the Membership Services Manager role.· Update template emails· Manage BIG’s branding information· Correspond with members, delegates and event suppliers etc as required.· Liaise with bursary winners about their contributions eg blog posts and Twitter take-overs
Events· Manage Event registration in liaison with BIG Event Co-ordinator· Support Event evaluation (Surveymonkey) with the Event Co-ordinator· Attend the AGM and BIG Event in July· Liaise with BIG Event Co-ordinator· Pay invoices, refunds and reimburse expenses
Finance· Manage BIG’s Bank accounts, making and receiving payments on behalf of BIG and banking cheques when necessary· Regularly update Finance spreadsheet · Liaise with BIG’s Honorary Treasurer· Manage BIG’s Paypal account and ensure a timely transfer of funds to the bank account in time for each quarter end.
Representing BIG· Maintain a professional manner as a positive and proactive representative of BIG.· Adhere to BIG’s Risk Assessments and policies· Adhere to Data protection/GDPR legislation· Market and advertise BIG if opportunities arise· Arrange AGM papers and nomination process for new Exec members· Liaise with Beetlestone and Josh Award panels to promote and announce the annual awards· Manage Dropbox folder of images and other documentsThis list of responsibilities is not exhaustive, and you may be required to perform duties outside of this as operationally required.2. Fee and expensesThe fee for these services is £6000 per annum divided into twelve equal instalments (This is due to be reviewed in Jan 2021).The fee will increase annually in line with inflation (RPI). The Membership Services Manager will invoice on a monthly basis and be sent to BIG’s Honorary Treasurer for approval in writing before payment.
You shall have the status of a self-employed person and shall not be entitled to any pension, holiday pay, sick pay, redundancy pay or any other fringe benefits from BIG STEM Communicators’ Network. In accordance with this you shall be wholly responsible for all taxes, National Insurance or similar contributions, which may be payable out of, or in respect of, any fees or monies connected to this agreement.While delivering these services for BIG STEM Communicators’ Network, you are entitled to the following expenses (in line with our Expenses policy)· Travel to and from Executive Committee meetings· Travel to and from events run by BIG· Travel to and from events where you are representing BIG· Accommodation related to BIG’s events· Subsistence (to be agreed upon for each event or activity)· Stationery and postage related to BIG’s activitiesWe expect other reasonable expenses to be covered by yourselves. Any such termination must be communicated in writing and it is agreed that BIG STEM Communicators’ Network will pay for any outstanding work completed as per the termination agreement upon receipt of an invoice. Termination by either party can be for any reason.

You will play a key role in co-ordinating and delivering the education programme, supporting involvement of staff and students from the world leading Wellcome Sanger Institute and European Bioinformatics Institute. About The Role You will work closely with the Education and Learning Manager to identify, develop and sustain relationships with schools and community learning groups, with particular focus on target geographical areas hallmarked by high pupil premium, indices of deprivation and/or lower social mobility. The role’s primary focus is the building of relationships with our target schools and the day to day delivery of education experiences off-Campus that connect Campus staff with learning groups, particularly secondary students, but also extending to primary and informal learning groups. There will also be a focus on developing resources to highlight the diverse range of careers in the genomics field. As a significant proportion of the role will involve engagement with formal learners, it will be advantageous to maintain contemporary knowledge and robust cross referencing with the UK education curricula. This is a chance to join our team, helping deliver our PE programme and broadening the public, patient and community groups we engage with through face-to-face events and remote engagement activities. We have a fantastic bunch of scientists, students and staff for you to work with from our base at the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre – a new University of Cambridge building just south of the city on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
The role will include event coordination (think planning, promotion, logistics, evaluation) and administration (financial, data, resources for our audiences), as well as developing activities and content co-created with public and patient groups. You will be required to both contribute to ongoing projects and provide one-to-one assistance for new researcher-led initiatives. We are seeking a visible, dynamic and progressive CEO to lead the organisation at a time when science and science engagement has never been more important. The role requires the successful candidate to lead this small organisation to realise big ambitions.
Founded in 2011, ASDC exists to champion and support science and discovery centres and museums who collectively engage with over 25 million people of all ages, genders, backgrounds and abilities and works to support the sector to encourage more diverse participation in science.

The Role
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) reports to the Board of Trustees and is responsible for providing leadership and direction to ASDC’s staff and activities. In partnership with the Board, the CEO will co-create an inspiring vision and strategy for refreshing the ASDC brand to take the association forward. The CEO will assure the operating and financial integrity of the organisation and will be called upon to represent ASDC externally with funders, partners, government and other stakeholders on a national basis.
Over its 10-year history, ASDC has developed an outstanding reputation and enjoys strong member support. As the organisation evolves, the CEO must ensure that the needs of the ASDC membership continue to be met and inspire the team to embrace new ways of thinking, identify new opportunities to reach new audiences and engage actively in national and international discussions on informal science engagement. The CEO will work to ensure that ASDC provides value to the science and discovery centre network on a national basis both through enhanced service offerings and facilitating increased collaboration across the sector. The CEO will also be a key ambassador for the sector and work to raise the profile of the sector and its contribution to society with government, public and private sector stakeholders.
The CEO will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the organisation and the small team based in Bristol.

An exciting opportunity to shape the future of Ri events and engage a wide range of diverse audiences
The Royal Institution runs a year-round programme of inspirational public science talks from the world’s greatest thinkers. Pre-pandemic these were all in-person events in our theatre, now the programme includes in-person, hybrid and online events. This has meant we have been able to engage with a wider and more diverse audience which we look to expand further.
We are looking for a Senior Science Talks Producer as the external face of the Ri, to develop, curate, host and manage innovative STEM events which are fascinating, entertaining, scientific and inclusive and which will grow our audiences. You will collaborate with the Demo team and Heritage team to ensure the programme has a distinctive Ri quality and the Digital, Marketing and Fundraising team to support the publicity of the programme, ticket sales and develop partnership and sponsorship opportunities.
