Salary range £15,500 - £19,000 (depending on experience)
Full time - 37.5 hours per week (any 5 days of 7)

This post is suitable for a motivated, enthusiastic individual with a commitment to widening participation to science learning and a passion for engaging a wide variety of public and community audiences with science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

You will play a key role in the creation and implementation of Dundee Science Centre's (DSC's) exhibition and public engagement programme of interactive shows, special events, widening access initiatives and projects e.g. Dundee Science Festival, and exhibition programming; designed to suit the needs of our local community and bring people together to enjoy science.

You will be responsible for developing, implementing and coordinating a variety of interactive shows, activities and projects for all of our audiences; including early years, families, community groups and audiences classed as underserved or hard to reach who may face barriers to engaging with science.

You will play a key role in supporting the wider team to deliver science learning experiences for a wide range of audiences with a focus on quality assurance. You will coordinate and deliver training for the team of Science Communicators and lead by example whilst regularly delivering tailored content within DSC as part of regular exhibition shifts, and on outreach within community hubs.

Working as part of the Exhibition and Community Engagement (ECE) team you will be responsible for the reviewing and reporting processes of the ECE programme, carrying out audience research and analysis, and contributing to marketing and funding application processes. You will represent Dundee Science Centre in collaborative projects, initiate new partnerships and projects, and liaise with industry and Higher Education to incorporate research and discoveries into learning experiences within the ECE Programme.


Dundee Science Centre is looking for an outstanding individual with: a passion for public engagement and community education; excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and the motivation to work in a visitor centre environment.

Qualification and knowledge/experience in a relevant area (public engagement, education or community education) is required. Experience in development, coordination, delivery and training of STEM learning experiences and is required. You should also be experienced in managing your own time and workload, leading projects from initiation through to fruition and working towards objectives with little supervision. Experience of providing science communication training is desired, as is experience of liaising with industry and Higher Education to incorporate their research and discoveries into learning experiences for a range of public audiences.

A full, clean UK driving licence is required.

The position of Exhibition and Community Engagement Officer is available on a full time basis, for an initial 12 month period, with the view of continuing the role beyond this, subject to funding.  Evening and weekend work will be required, as will travel across Scotland.
