The University of Edinburgh’s Easter Bush Campus, home to The Roslin Institute and Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, is seeking to recruit a motivated and experienced individual to fill the newly-created post of Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre Officer, which will focus on developing and running the new Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre (EBSOC).
EBSOC is a purpose-built teaching laboratory that will enable visiting groups to experience real scientific techniques and explore current research (predominantly but not exclusively biomedical, biological and veterinary sciences) via encounters with researchers and clinicians from across the University of Edinburgh.
The EBSOC Officer will be the main point of contact for EBSOC and will provide technical and administrative oversight for the centre’s public engagement activities. This will include planning and setting up of activities, maintenance of equipment, ordering of supplies and administering bookings. The post-holder will assist in the development and delivery of EBSOC activities and will work closely with researchers and public engagement practitioners from across the University of Edinburgh, as well as external stakeholders, to develop new relationships and establish the EBSOC programme.
Applicants will need proven technical laboratory experience, a strong interest in and enthusiasm for public engagement with research and excellent all-round communication skills. In addition, applicants with experience of developing and running public engagement, science communication and/or formal teaching activities are strongly encouraged to apply.
This post is offered on a part-time (0.5FTE, hours per week may be flexible), fixed-term basis for 12 months and is available from September 2017.
